The project involved the renovation of this 110 m² apartment located in the Monteverde area of Rome. Previously, the apartment featured a poorly functional internal layout, and there was a clear need to improve the natural lighting throughout the space. The intervention included a complete redesign of the interior, with particular focus on the living area.

The main objective was to create a separate kitchen from the living room, without sacrificing visual connection or the perception of a unified space. To achieve this, a metal-framed glass partition in a warm earthy tone was used to divide the kitchen. This element added strong character to the space and enabled a physical separation between the rooms while maintaining visual continuity and light flow. The slender-framed structure serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, with a matte finish that echoes the warm tones of the earth and contrasts with the neutral colors of the walls.

From a layout perspective, the hallway was removed to expand the living area and create a more fluid spatial arrangement. A distinctive feature of the renovation was the introduction of curved walls, both in the transitions between rooms and in some interior corners. This design choice served a dual purpose: enhancing the spatial perception by creating a smoother, more continuous environment, and softening the visual impact of what was originally a fairly rigid layout.

Although the renovation has a contemporary character, the choice of materials was guided by a desire to maintain a dialogue with the apartment’s original identity. An Italian herringbone oak parquet was installed in the living areas and bedrooms, while terrazzo tiles were used in the bathrooms, referencing traditional Roman construction practices.
